Should I choose NIT Calicut CSE or IIT BHU chemical Engineering?

SB
Sumit Barua Posted On : August 27th, 2021
B.Tech from Jadavpur University (2021)

If you are interested in coding and aim to work in good corporate firms, then it is suggested that you go for CSE at NIT Calicut. But if you want an IIT tag, you can opt for IIT BHU. But this won't matter much afterward.

So, if you are focused on doing research then Chemical Engineering at IIT BHU will be a good option. You can also learn coding on the sidelines, which might be beneficial if you sit for placements.

Parametres CSE at NIT Calicut Chemical Engineering at IIT BHU
Tuition Fee INR 16,000 INR 6.7 LPA
Placement Percentage 73.5% 71%
Average Package INR 11.57 LPA INR 16.27 LPA

The choice of studying in a college pursuing a particular subject is entirely up to you. Check where your strengths and weaknesses lie and then choose accordingly. Both institutes are good in their own way. But it is your hard work and dedication that will prove if CSE or Chemical will be good for you.

Which one is better: chemical engineering from University of Chandigarh or production and industrial engineering from PEC Chandigarh?

PB
Paras Batra Posted On : April 30th, 2021
B.Tech Production and Industrial Engineering, Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh (2019)

The University of Chandigarh and Punjab Engineering College are equally good. It finally depends on you and what you are passionate about, as chemical engineering has a broader curriculum than IE.

Students opting for Chemical Engineering can specialize in the fields of Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics, Polymer Science & Technology, Energy Management, Biochemical Engineering, Separation Processes, Reaction Engineering, Pulp and paper, and Environmental Engineering.

Industrial Engineering is somewhat similar to Mechanical Engineering but not quite. Students will get to learn about manufacturing processes, manufacturing systems, systems engineering, IT, Networks, basic shop floor communications, and much more.

In the following table, you will get basic information about the colleges -

Category

Chandigarh University (CE)

PEC (PIE)

Fees

INR 4.80 LPA

INR 3.46 LPA

Recruiters

SABIC, Sinopec, ExxonMobil, Formosa Plastics, LyondellBasell Industries, DuPont, Bayer, Evonik Industries, Toray Industries

Trident, Maruti, JP Morgan, Loreal, Mu Sigma, Amazon, Exxon Mobil, Maruti Suzuki, Airbus, Hero Motocorp, Tata, L&T, Goldman Sachs, Maruti, McKenzie, Aakash IIT-JEE, ABB, ACC, Fiat, Sandisk, Eicher, Volvo, Minda, Reliance, Microsoft, Google, Yahoo, IBM, SAP, MISYS, Chase

Highest CTC

INR 15 LPA

INR 9 LPA

Average CTC

INR 8.75 LPA

INR 5 LPA

Lowest CTC

INR 3.6 LPA

INR 3.5 LPA

But the Production and Industrial Engineering Branch of Punjab Engineering College is better. It also gives lots of opportunities to students both in education and placement. Also, even if you go for chemical engineering, you will for IE.

Therefore, choosing Production and Industrial Engineering from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh is a better option than Chemical Engineering of Chandigarh University, as it has more opportunities.

Which is better for Chemical Engineering, NIT Rourkela or ICT Mumbai?

DS
Dheeraj Sengupta Posted On : April 8th, 2021
Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai (2017)

My suggestion will be the Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai. The reasons are mentioned below.

  • It is solely dedicated to chemical engineering, unlike NIT Rourkela.
  • It is famous for producing brilliant chemical engineers for years now.
  • It has location benefits as Maharashtra and Gujarat are home to many industries. This helps in easy internship opportunities and placements also.
  • Many good companies and even PSUs participate in the campus placement drive. Even if you have low CGPA points, you will get hired if you do well at the interview.
  • The professors are the best in their respective domains. They also have good connections in the industry. They can help you get placed in any industry with just one letter.

Chemical engineering is a part of many departments in NIT Rourkela or any other NIT but ICT Mumbai specializes in it. Hope it helps.

What was the CGPA of the student who grabs the highest package at Haldia Institute of Technology in chemical engineering department?

NS
Natasha Singhal Posted On : September 23rd, 2021
Studied B.Tech Biotechnology,Haldia Institute of Technology (2016)

One of my brothers was placed in a prominent company through on-campus placement. As per his experience, CGPA isn’t required for the process of getting a good job.

He scored 9 CGPA and many of his friends scored less than him yet they were successfully placed in prominent companies. The reason behind this is that marks hardly matters when recruiters visit campus moreover, they are all focused on your knowledge and skills.

Getting a good placement is definitely a dream for all the engineers but you definitely have to brush up on your skills and knowledge before sitting for the recruitment process.

How is the chemical engineering branch in Haldia Institute of Technology? Should I join?

RR
Ravi Ranjan Rai Posted On : September 15th, 2021
Studied at Haldia Institute of Technology

Chemical Engineering at Haldia Institute of Technology used to be one of the best courses at the institute. But with years the condition of this branch has gotten worse. The old faculty members have retired. The current faculty base is not that great.

I have a few friends from the institute and according to them, if you are keen on exploring the field of chemistry then Haldia would not be one of your best choice institutes. But the placements here are decent. In the 2020 placements, the highest and average CTC offered was 3.5 LPA and 24 LPA.

Is NIT Calicut civil or chemical better in terms of placements and scope in future?

AM
Atul Mandal Posted On : August 23rd, 2021
National Institute of Technology, Calicut (2018)

If you are a Civil student, my advice to you would be to prepare for the GATE exam once you are done with your degree. The placement is quite low for core companies. Many students also follow the same.

Chemical students are known to focus on jobs and have a good placement in analytics and software-based companies. Many of the top ones also land core jobs.

My suggestion would be to check the syllabus and pick the subject you like. You will realize which subject has good scope and what does not. As far as Civil is concerned, most students land jobs at L&T. But, they will make you work a lot and you will not be satisfied with the pay. This is not the case with Chemical engineering.

IR
Ishita Roy Posted On : August 25th, 2021

Chemical Engineering and ECE, both the branches are in demand. The major scope of Chemical Engineering is in chemical, food processing, pharma, medical industries, oil, and gas, etc.

The major scope of ECE is in android, mobile, and telecommunication. The majority of the students prefer ECE because of two reasons. The first reason being comfort. Secondly, after acquiring skills in programming languages, it is easy to switch to the IT or software field.

Here is a brief overview of CE at NIT Calicut and ECE at IIIT Jabalpur.

What should I prefer between chemical at BITS Goa and CS at new IIITS (like Nagpur, Guwahati)?

AP
Abhishek Patil Posted On : June 19th, 2021
Chemical Engineering at BITS, Goa 2021

You can opt to enroll in BITS, Goa for Chemical Engineering only if you are positive to pursue your career in that field, or if you are simultaneously planning for any in-depth research activities in chemical engineering-related fields in the upcoming years.

  • It is also to be remembered that the campus placements for students in the chemical department of BITS, Goa is not the best.
  • Unfortunately, very few core companies visit the campus for placement offers.
  • Now, there are students who also tend to get placed at several IT companies which are nonetheless not very simple or easy-going as well.
  • While, on the other hand, some get placed in various consultancy companies which allegedly do not take your degree into any specific consideration.

However, the older IIITs are comparatively better in terms of providing the best of everything, than it is in the newer ones. But, if you are personally considering the branch, then CSE has always been ahead of the list in terms of placement opportunities as opposed to Chemical.

Should I join MANIT (NIT Bhopal) Chemical Engineering while I get CSE at IIIT Sri city? I've no particular inclination towards any branch.

AS
Ankita Sinha Posted On : June 15th, 2021
B.E. from Panjab University, Chandigarh (2020)

Why do you want to opt for engineering? Is it because you enjoy Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics? If that’s the reason, then there are two possibilities for you.

Joining IIIT Sri City for CSE-

  • You can sharpen your coding skills and work better on Computer Science learning more about ethical hacking, cybersecurity, etc. This is how CSE would prove to be fruitful to you.
  • But if we perceive the other side of the situation, if you do not hold any interest here, you might find it hard to cope with and eventually lose interest. Since IIIT Sri City is a new college, it will not be able to impart the essential communication/soft skills to you.

Joining Chemical Engineering at MANIT Bhopal-

  • Apart from developing a great interest in Chemical Engineering, you have the opportunities to either go for higher education via GRE or ensure placement via GATE.
  • But again, comparing the other side of the situation, if Chemical Engineering does not spark your interest, you can go for other domains like Management. MANIT offers all the adequate communication/soft skills that would be essential for that.

If you have no particular inclination, then choosing CSE may be better. As it has two domains, i.e. coding and non-coding. Plus, the internet is full of great ebooks and tutorials to teach you.
