The Education Minister of West Bengal, Partha Chatterjee stated that no plans have yet been made to start regular classes in colleges and universities which remain closed since the nationwide lockdown.
Chatterjee informed that physical classes will not be commenced for college students anytime soon. He also added that the syllabus which was previously given will be further reduced.
The education minister of West Bengal stated that more importance would be given to online classes and informed that they were planning to conduct the first-semester examination in online mode.

The education institutions in West Bengal remained closed from March 2020 because of the COVID 19 outbreak and imposture nationwide lockdown to restrict the spread of coronavirus.
The Union Ministry of Education has issued the guidelines that need to be followed for the reopening of schools and colleges and permitted the state government to decide the reopening of educational institutions depending upon the spread of the virus in the respective states.
On December 6, 2020, the number of new COVID 19 cases reported in West Bengal was recorded to be 3,367 and 54 people have died.
The total number of cases in the state has reached 4,80,813 which includes 24,405 active cases and 4,48,032 recoveries. The total number of death cases increased and recorded to be 8,376.
