We will work out the best possible way to secure the future of our children.
The government had previously formed an expert committee to assess the current Covid-19 situation and make a decision on the state's WBBSE Class 10 and Class 12 board exams.
Banerjee, speaking at a press conference here, said that an evaluation would be conducted in some form and that a decision would be made soon.
According to her, at least 83% of the 34,000 people who responded said that holding board exams in schools was a bad idea in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the chief minister, an expert panel formed by her government to assess the feasibility of holding the exams made similar recommendations. The school education department had provided email addresses and asked for public input on the viability of holding this year's board exams.
We are not holding the uchha madhyamik (higher secondary) and madhyamik (secondary) exams right now in deference to public opinion and as suggested by the expert committee, but we do not want to inconvenience our students. “There will be some sort of evaluation, and the candidates will be given results based on that. “We will make a decision on the evaluation method soon,” she said.
During the meeting, Banerjee directed the education secretary to ensure that the expert committee, comprised of doctors and academics, develops the evaluation criteria within a week. She also requested that officials stay current on the assessment methods used by other boards.
This year, over 12 lakh students will take the Madhyamik and 8.5 lakh will take the Higher Secondary exams. In the aftermath of the pandemic, CBSE and CISCE recently cancelled 12 board exams.
