June 2, 2021: Uttar Pradesh universities have officially decided to promote all the first-year students of undergraduate and postgraduate courses to second year, directly without conducting exams.
Meanwhile, the final year students in various undergraduate and graduate courses in the Uttar Pradesh universities will be assessed through an examination before receiving their respective degrees. These suggestions have been made by the three-member committee instituted to work out modalities for promoting students.
Marking Criteria for UP Universities following Annual Scheme
In the universities where UG and PG courses function under the annual scheme, the Committee has made a decision to promote the first-year students to the second year. The results of all the first-year students will be prepared based on their performance in second-year examinations when they take them.
Similarly, the universities which conducted the exams for first-year students in 2020, will prepare second-year results of the students based on their performance in first year. Subsequently, the students will be promoted to their third year.
Marking Criteria for UP Universities following Semester System
As per the reports, the students who did not take their examinations, under the semester system, such universities will prepare results based on their performance in the first semester exams. The same will be followed to prepare results for all the UG and PG students who are in odd semesters.
Exam for Second, Final Year Students by August 13
The universities that could not conduct exams for the first year in 2020, such students are required to appear for exams in the second year through the OMR-based test. On the basis of their performance in the OMR-based exam, the students will be admitted in the third year. The state and private universities in Uttar Pradesh will have to conduct the OMR-Based Test on or before August 13, 2021. The test will consist of Multiple-choice questions.
OMR is Optical mark recognition (also called optical mark reading). It is the process of capturing human-marked data from document forms such as surveys and tests. These OMRs are used to read multiple-choice examination papers, questionnaires, in the form of lines or shaded areas. The results for the OMR-based test will be released within August 31, 2021.
