Additionally, students will be offered with exit options so that they can leave their program in between. Students will have the option to apply for one-year and two-year duration postgraduate programs from the new academic session.
While talking about the FYUP, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan stated that the courses will be implemented in accordance with the New Education Policy 2020. Under this, a 3-year degree course along with a 4-year degree course will be offered to students.
Adding to the statement, the Union Minister directed the Vice-Chancellors of all universities to decide on their own process for FYUP implementation.
He said, "The central universities have autonomy on how to do this. It is up to them how they will roll it out. By next year, the central universities should decide their own process on this subject".
The universities have now decided to start the implementation of four-year undergraduate courses in their affiliated colleges. The first step has been taken by Delhi University as it has passed the agenda of the DU FYUP structure for the 2022 academic session.
Despite the protests and disagreements of the DU Teachers’ Association on NEP 2021, Delhi University's standing committee on Academic Affairs has now decided on FYUP implementation in various DU affiliated colleges from the next academic session.
Referring to the step, Delhi University's DUTA official Abha Dev Habib stated that the disagreement of students and on FYUP 2013 shows that students do not like the idea of additional expenditure of the four-year program.
As per the data received by the survey conducted in 2013, the Delhi University has recorded that university students were spending over Rs 1.5-2 lakh per year while living in Delhi to get an education. "This will also put an additional burden on the infrastructure" he added.
