July 19, 2021: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has confirmed that the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has given permission to offer the B.Tech program in various regional languages.
With this announcement, the B.Tech program will now be offered in 11 regional languages, including Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Gujarati, Malayalam, Bengali, Assamese, Punjabi, and Odia.
Referring to the same, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan tweeted, "AICTE has permitted BTech programs in 11 regional languages. PM Shri @narendramodi is committed to promoting regional languages in mainstream education".

"NEP stresses on this important aspect to empower students coming from diverse regions. Gratitude to Hon. Vice President for welcoming the decision to offer courses in regional language in engineering colleges", the tweet further reads.
In accordance with National Education Policy 2020, the AICTE will now offer education in the mother tongue to provide fair education facilities to all state students. With this goal, various engineering colleges will now offer programs in various regional languages.
Earlier, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu has also welcomed the AICTE's decision's to permit over 14 engineering colleges to offer B.Tech in regional languages across eight states to offer programs for the academic year 2022.
Undergraduate programs from various different domains, such as Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Information Technology will now be offered in various regional languages to interested students. AICTE has approved 14 engineering colleges across the country to allow admission seats to about 1000 students in various undergraduate programs.

Out of 14 Engineering colleges that have now received permits from AICTE, colleges from Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttarakhand will now offer UG Program in the Hindi language. Even Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal, and Tamil Nadu state colleges have received permission to offer various undergraduate courses in Telugu, Marathi, Bengali and Tamil languages
In November 2020, the Union Education Ministry announced that many engineering colleges will offer education in regional languages from the academic year 2021-2022.
