UGC Gives Approval to 11 More Universities to Offer Open Distance Learning Courses; Read Full Report Here


UGC ODL Program 2021: University Grants Commission (UGC) has recently given its approval to 11 more universities to offer Open Distance Learning (ODL) Programs. With this approval, the universities will now start the academic session from July 2021 to 2025-26.

Under the approval of UGC, eleven universities from Gujarat, Karnataka, Pondicherry, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal will now start the commencement of distance learning programs.

The UGC-approved Open Distance learning courses will be offered to all interested candidates from July 2021 session to the Academic session 2025-2026. In addition to the university list released in March 2021, the new list has been prepared for students to check. 

The list has been prepared after the commencement of the Standing Appellate Committee (SAC) meeting, which was held in the months of June and July 2021. 

During the meeting, the commission declared that ODL Program 2021 will commence from November 2021 for all registered students. The last date to apply for the UGC Open Distance Learning (ODL) Program 2021 Admission process is December 15, 2021 for all eligible candidates.

Along with the approval, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has released the list of recognized courses that will be offered through the open distance learning mode. UGC clarified that universities are not permitted to offer any unrecognized courses through ODL mode. 

Earlier, in August 2021, the UGC has permitted four universities to offer full-fledged online degree programs from the next academic session. 

Universities which received approval in August are; Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala, Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences, Tamil Nadu, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute, West Bengal, and Bharathiyar University, Tamil Nadu.
