The University Grants Commissions (UGC) has officially announced the extension of thesis submission deadline for terminal M.Phil and Ph.D students till December 31, 2021.

As per the official notice by UGC, the deadline to submit thesis for Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes has been extended, considering the larger interest of the research scholars and their requests.

UGC Extends Last Date for the Third Time in a Row

Reports claim, this is the third time that UGC has extended the submission deadline. Earlier, in April 2020, the University Grants Commission (UGC) released the exam guidelines and an academic calendar considering the outbreak of COVID-19. It was mentioned in the guidelines that students can submit their thesis till December 31, 2020.

However, the UGC had again extended the last date to submit the thesis by six months, till June 30, 2021. And now for the third time in a row, keeping in mind the interest of the research scholars and a huge number of requests by them, the UGC has again extended the last date of the thesis submission to December 31.

According to the information shared by UGC in its official notice, the extension of deadline is also applicable to the M.Phil and Ph.D students whose due date for the thesis submission is on or before December 31, 2021.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has taken the decision of extending the deadline for the MPhil and PhD thesis submission, due to the COVID-19 pandemic circumstances, and the continuous lockdown, which restricted the students to visit or access any university laboratories, university facility, or a library to conduct their respective researches.

However, now with the UGC's latest announcements, MPhil and PhD students can submit their thesis till December 31, 2021. Meanwhile, the tenure of the fellowship will remain upto five years only as it has not been extended.
