TN School Reopening: Decision to be taken After Obtaining Suggestions from Parents, Students, says K A Sengottaiyan


Tamil Nadu School Education and Youth Welfare Minister K A Sengottaiyan stated on Monday that the decision on reopening schools would be taken by the chief minister after considering suggestions from parents and students. Schools in the state are shut since the COVID-19 imposed lockdown. 

A final decision on reopening schools will be taken by Chief Minister K Palaniswami. He informed reporters at Gobichettipalayam near here after launching the distribution of INR 2,500 cash and gift hampers to ration cardholders.

The minister informed, "On behalf of the School Education Department, suggestions will be obtained from parents, students and from Parents-Teachers Associations also about reopening of the schools in Tamil Nadu. They will be collected till this weekend."

The Minister stated practical examinations for Classes 10 to 12 will be held and the exam schedule would be released anytime soon. Meanwhile, schools in the state have been closed since last March due to the nation-wide lockdown in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

On the other hand, Sengottaiyan also said in Erode district alone 7,10,966 ration cardholders would receive INR 2,500 cash and gift hampers for the upcoming Pongal festival. He added the gifts would be offered till January 13, 2021, in the PDS outlets.
