The Tamil Nadu government announced on Saturday night that it has decided to cancel the state's class 12 board exams due to the country's current COVID-19 situation, according to Chief Minister MK Stalin. The Tamil Nadu Board, however, has not yet revealed the assessment criteria for the students.

This comes just days after CBSE and ICSE cancelled the Class 12 Board Exam 2021 in the aftermath of India's COVID-19 situation.
The Tamil Nadu government cancelled the TN Class 10 & Class 11 exams last month, while the TN HSC board exams were postponed. Later, it stated that the decision on class 12 board exams would be made on June 4 following a discussion with all relevant authorities, including students and teachers.
Earlier in the day, the lockdown in Tamil Nadu, where assembly elections were recently held, was extended until June 14. Chief Minister MK Stalin, on the other hand, stated that shops selling essential commodities and government offices would continue to operate in the state.
Stalin also declared that non-essential services, such as shops selling hardware, electrical goods, vehicle spares, books and stationery, and vehicle service stations, would be permitted to operate in Tamil Nadu from 6 AM to 5 PM daily.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu's COVID-19 situation has vastly improved. According to data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the state's active COVID-19 tally fell by over 11,400 on Saturday to 2.68 lakh.
Similarly, over 33,600 patients recovered from the infection, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 19 lakh. However, the death toll has surpassed the dreadful figure of 26,100, with over 400 new fatalities recorded on Saturday, according to Health Ministry data.
