According to the official sources, Tamil Nadu government has decided to add 1,650 MBBS in 11 new colleges across the state. Recently, the NMC officials conducted surprise inspections at Namakkal, Tiruppur, Krishnagiri, and Dindigul medical 6in the past 10 days and more surprise visits are likely to be expected in the seven remaining medical colleges in the upcoming days.
In order to inspect the Biochemistry, Anatomy, and Physiology laboratories, the NMC team visits the newly constructed medical colleges. Besides, the team also inspects the number of trained doctors, general wards, professors and teachers and the hostel facilities for the students (both boys and girls). Further, the team will inspect the attached hospital along with the patient flow before providing them with the licence. Most of these colleges will have 700 to 750 beds.
If the new government medical college in Tamil Nadu gets approved and recognised by the National Medical Council (NMC), the state will add more 1,650 MBBS seats, which will mark the total to approximately 5,200.

Ma Subramanian, the State Health Minister, said that the NMC inspections in four of the eleven new medical colleges have already been completed and once the 11 new medical colleges get clearance, then the state will have a medical college in each district.
The Director of Medical Education, Tamil Nadu, Dr Nayarayana Babu, said that with the sanctioning of the 11 new medical colleges, other than the increase in the number of seats, the tertiary medical care will also improve and upgrade giving a boost to the general health of the people across Tamil Nadu.
