TEQIP III 2021: Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) third phase will conclude on September 30, 2021, in order to improve the quality of engineering education.
The Ministry of Education has directed Chief Secretaries to continue activities under the TEQIP project. As for TEQIP 2021, to avoid any further academic standstill, the third phase of the same will be concluded on September 30, 2021.
As per his statement, the Government of India is now making efforts in offering a sustainable plan for the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP-III).

In his letter to Chief Secretaries, the Ministry of Education further added that now is the time for the state to focus on conducting various activities under TEQIP-III in order to maintain the quality of education.
While writing a reply in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan stated that the program will be replaced by another program, Multidisciplinary Education Research Improvement in Technical Education (MERIT).
“A token amount of Rs 10 crore has been given towards MERITE in the recent budget 2021-22 to start preparatory works,” the Education Ministry further wrote in his letter in the Lok Sabha.

Earlier in 2017, the Government of India signed an agreement with the World Bank. The financial agreement was made between the two parties in order to support project design and improve the quality of engineering education in various institutions in the county.
Under this financing agreement, the Government of India offers special consideration to low-income and special category states so that they can improve the quality of education.
The government of India has established a National Project Implementation Unit (NPIU) which will be used as a center for the central project team. The team carries out the day-to-day project task at the center.
In 2018, the National Project Implementation Unit (NPIU) had recruited various eligible, and qualified graduates from top IITs, IISc, NITs, and other Central-funded universities under this project.
The contract between the Government of India and the World Bank has now come to an end in March 2021. Opposing the same, the TEQIP III faculty had staged peaceful protests at Jantar. The goal of the protest was to request their retention and regularisation.
