Anna University along with 10 other institutions in Tamil Nadu will now offer online degree programs in various domains, including MCA, MBA, BBA, BCom, BCA, MA, and MSc through online means from July 2021.

The online degree courses will be offered with the approval of the University Grants Commission by some of the top universities of Tamil Nadu, as well as top NIRF ranking universities from across the country. 

As per the record, a total of 38 institutes from across India will offer online degree courses to students from July, which includes Bharathidasan University, Alagappa University, and Madurai Kamaraj University.

Additionally, six top universities in Tamil Nadu that have secured their positions within the top 100 in the National Institutional Ranking Framework, NIRF Rankings will also offer programs to students. 

The decision on providing online education to students in the country was made after evaluating the shift of education from physical classes to online sessions. 

With the approval of UGC, various universities are now preparing online resources and top education materials for students who will enroll in the online degree programs. 

With the goal of providing excellent education to students, SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) will now offer eight online degree programs to students. The program offered by the institute includes BBA in digital marketing, MBA in business analytics, and MBA in marketing management. 

Referring to the initiative, Manoranjan Pon Ram, Director, Online Education, SRMIST said, “We launched an MBA online program in February as we got the approval in January. The remaining programs will be launched in July”.

“From 2020 we will start building technology infrastructures such as hi-tech labs and academic preparation. The institute also prepared the SRM Online Learning Platform which can provide complete learning for students,” he further added.

From the academic session 2021-2022, the Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science (HITS) has introduced its own Centre for Open and Digital Education in order to provide an online degree program to students. 

Mentioning the degree programs offered by the institute, RW Alexander Jesudasan, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, HITS said, “We have been preparing for the last one year and hiring experts to offer online degree programs. We will include as many programs as possible focusing on working professionals and homemakers".
