Pre-Sea Training Course Admission 2021: Purpose
On successful completion of Pre-Sea General Purpose Rating Course, the candidates have to appear for the All India Exit Examination for General Purpose Rating Course conducted by the Board of Examinations for Seafarers under Directorate General of Shipping, Mumbai, which will be arranged by this Academy.
After passing the All India Exit Examination, the candidates are eligible to get the Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC), which qualifies the candidates to take up employment in Merchant Navy Internationally.TNMA will make arrangements for getting Indian National Database of Seafarers (INDOs) Number without any extra cost.
Pre-Sea Training Course Admission 2021: Eligibility
Below are the conditions to be satisfied for applying into the course:
- Candidates must have passed 10 boards from government recognized institutes with subjects English, Mathematics & Science with 40% aggregate. English 40 in 10th or 11th class
- Candidate must be unmarried
- Candidates must have secured 40% marks in the 12th boards examination and passed english with minimum 40% marks
- Candidates must pass in a 2 year ITI course (Fitter / Machinist / Mechanic / Welder / Turner) approved by DVET / NCVT; with minimum 40% aggregate marks in final year of ITI & minimum 40% in English in 10th or 12th boards.
- Candidates must be between the age of 17-27 years.
- If the candidate is above 25 years, he must have a diploma degree in any field
- Candidate must have a passport
- Candidate must not suffer from any eye deficiency or wear glasses

Filled in applications can be sent either by Speed post, Registered post, Courier,along with nonrefundable Demand Draft for INR 750/- drawn on any Nationalized Bank in favour of Tamil Nadu Maritime Academy payable at Thoothukudi.
Pre-Sea Training Course Admission 2021: Selection process
Candidates will be selected if they pass the medical fitness test and sight test (vision both eyes 6/6) by the Medical Examiners approved by the Directorate General of Shipping.
Note:The expenditure for medical examinations shall be borne by the candidate and also bear responsibility for correct medical report.
Pre-Sea Training Course Admission 2021: Course Curriculum
The candidates on selection have to undergo the residential Pre-Sea General Purpose Rating Course at Tamil Nadu Maritime Academy at Thoothukudi (Tamil Nadu State) for a period of 6months. The training programme also includes the following Modular Courses:
- Elementary First Aid (EFA)
- Proficiency in Survival Techniques (PST)
- Personal Safety and Social Responsibility (PSSR)
- Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (FPFF)
- Security Training for Seafarers with designated Security Duties Course (STSDSD)
- Basic Training for Oil & Chemical Tanker Cargo Operation (OCTCO).
