Tamil Nadu: Education Minister of Tamil Nadu, KA Sengottaiyan has declared that half-yearly examinations would be canceled this year for government and government-aided schools.
As schools are shut down in the state owing to the pandemic, the Education Minister has announced cancellation of examinations for government, and private schools. However, the government has left the final decision on school administration.

The Education Minister also has decided not to reopen schools until further notice. Private schools have given the option to either conduct the half-yearly exams online or cancel them.
State government has not issued any notification regarding the reopening of the schools. Colleges in Tamil Nadu had reopened recently but spike in COVID-19 cases at IIT Madras, however, led the government to issue a stringent warning against the Educational Institutions.
Government has warned the educational institutes for defying SOPs and guidelines and also asked them to work cordially to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 infection in the state.

State Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan informed the press that detailed protocols and SOPs have been released already by the government.
He further added that if COVID-19 safety protocols and prevention guidelines are not followed by colleges and government institutes, then strict actions will be taken against them under the ‘Epidemic Disease Act’ and the ‘Tamil Nadu Public Health Act’.
Additionally, 183 cases were reported in IIT Madras. However, students are all stable and are being aided at the state-run King’s Institute of Preventive Medicine and Research.
