Tamil Nadu Approves 7.5% Quota for Government School Students in Professional Courses; Details Here


As per the latest update, Tamil Nadu cabinet has approved to have about 7.5% reservation for professional courses admission 2021 in the state for government school students. 

The decision to offer a 7.5% quota was taken during the cabinet meeting on August 04, 2021. Students of Tamil Nadu state government schools will now be offered with reservations in various professional courses, such as engineering, agriculture, fisheries, veterinary, and law.

As per the recent report released from the commission, "To implement the recommendation of the commission, it has been decided to introduce a bill in the upcoming session itself to provide 7.5% reservation to students of government schools in admission to professional courses like 7.5% quota for medical admission". 

The Cabinet Led by Chief Minister M K Stalin will propose a budget in the next cabinet session in order to offer horizontal reservation for state government school students.

Adding to the decision, the official release stated that Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit will summon the Legislative Assembly to meet on August 13, 2021. The state government will also present the revised budget for the year 2021 during the meeting. 

On August 09, 2021, the Tamil Nadu state government will present a white paper on the state's financial situation during the cabinet meeting.

With the drop of numbers of government school students in professional course admission in Tamil Nadu state, the DMK Government has set up the commission to analyze the reason behind the same.

After assuming a charge which was earlier set under the chairmanship of judge Justice D Murugesan On June 15, 2021, the commission recommended analyzing the measures required to increase the number of state government students in professional courses.
