The court has observed no university is in the state to under-perform when they are being supervised by the international standards. Therefore, it creates a loop hole for the universities to enhance the norms and standards prescribed by AICTE.

The meeting was held with the Chief Justice S A Bobde and Justices AS Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian where they discussed how the Kerala High Court fixed the affiliation norms offered by the colleges in the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University. As per them, the judgement passed was unsustainable and expensive. The simpler and easy solution was to enhance the norms and standards.

As the education sector is also ranked nowadays by the National Institutional Ranking Framework, it is essential for the universities to maintain their standards. The universities are ranked on the basis of teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practice, graduation outcomes and others.

Universities Cannot Afford Laid-back Attitude

The bench at the meeting concluded that no university at this time can afford to take it easy and will have to perform exceptionally in order to be ranked in the top universities.

All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) norms and standards are proven to be unwarranted and has compelled the court to modify it. The regulations were introduced in the year 2012 and the affiliated institutes are measured as per today’s requirement.

In view of this, the applications for extension of approvals are processed by AICTE only online, merely on the basis of the self-disclosure made by the colleges in their online applications but not on their website. Therefore it is necessary for all the infrastructures to submit applications using their unique User ID.

Further, the court declared that the regulations of the AICTE are silent as to how the students will get compensated, when penal action is taken against colleges which host false information online in their applications to AICTE.
