The state association for non-government institutes of technical education (IITs) has sought the Directorate General of Training (DGT), Delhi to postpone the deadline for admission in order to enrol more number of students.
The association has released an official statement on January 15, 2021 requesting the DGT to postpone the deadline till the end of January 2021 to provide admission to more students.
The statement also mentioned that nearly 3.5 lakh candidates have registered for admission in this academic year, out of which only 1 lakh candidates have confirmed admission.
The association believes that because of the lack of the public transportation facility, many students could not reach the allotted institutes to confirm their admissions. Hence, the association requested an extension in the deadline for about 2 weeks.

The pre-admission registration to ITI courses across the country had commenced in August 2020 and concluded in September 2020. It is recorded that in the academic year 2019-20, the total registrations were about 2.8 lakhs, which increases in the academic year 2020-21 to 3.5 lakhs.
According to experts, the increase in the total number registration in ITI courses is because of the encouragement to skill-based learning provided by the Central government and state governments.
The principals of ITI colleges were worried that even with the increase in the total number of registration, the number of candidates getting admission might be lesser.
“This year, registrations to ITIs began before admissions to junior colleges had even started, so that could be one of the reasons more students registered for ITIs as a back-up plan. The same number don’t seem to be reflecting in the classroom at present,” stated the principal of a city-based ITI.
He also mentioned that if the deadline to provide admission is increased, the institutes can attract more number of students to get admission in ITI courses before commencing the academic calendar.
