Representatives of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) and the US Embassy on Tuesday met to discuss the joint cooperation in education and research. The meeting was held in Mumbai, to discuss the strengthening of ties between the university and institutes in the US.
Senior Officials of SPPU and the US Embassy, including the Consul general David J Ranz were present in the meeting. As per the reports, Mr.Ranz said that the US is excited to partner with higher education institutes across western India.

The partnership would help both sides and support the incubation of new technologies and ideas while also supporting curriculum development. On the other hand, SPPU officials revealed that the other side has expressed their interest in the Center for Molecular Diagnostic.
The center was set up during the pandemic times by SPPU and is also supported by the University. The center is especially important as it conducts various research on communicable and non-communicable diseases.
SPPU previously had engagements with Penn State University and is currently engaged through various agreements with Drexel University and the University of California. Ranz highlighted this and said that other Indian universities need to join hands with their American Counterparts.

Having previous agreements with other US institutions would also increase the credibility of the institute. As such, SPPU is in a unique and leading position to have similar agreements with other Universities in the US.
SPPU Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Nitin Karmalkar said that SPPU will take their relations with other US universities to the next level. They will also offer programmes in liberal arts and joint research initiatives that will be supported by both sides.
Previously, SPPU had conducted its final year exams in an offline-online mode. More than 2.5 lakh students appeared for their exams while 18000 were absent or had 0 scores in various subjects. SPPU announced the results of their exams in October.
According to the university officials, as many as 10000 students did not even log in to their systems and were marked absent, while the result of 8000 students was still being reviewed.
