Send Nominations for National Unity Award by August 15: UGC to Universities


The University Grants Commission, UGC, has officially notified the universities and institutions to send their nominations for the National Unity Award before August 15, 2021. All the universities have to send their recommendations and nominations on the official website @nationalunityawards.mha.gov.in.

After the independence day, on the birth anniversary of the first deputy PM, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the National Unity Day is celebrated on October 31, 2021. According to the award’s official website, the award seeks to recognize notable and inspiring contributions to promote the cause of national unity and integrity and to reinforce the value of a strong and united India. The award was instituted in the year 2019. 

Furthermore, the award website explains that the candidate nominated for the award should have made brilliant efforts and notable contributions to promote and the cause of national unity and integrity in a way that might serve as an inspiration to others for a strong and united India. 

As per the UGC's letter to the Vice-chancellor, it is mentioned that the nominations or recommendations should contain all the relevant details specified in the format available on the above portal including a citation in narrative form, clearly bringing out the distinguished and exceptional achievements or services of persons, institutions, or organizations of India to promote and progress the cause for national unity and integrity. 

It must be noted that the National Unity Award is open to all Indian citizens and every year, three citizens receive the medal and citation. However, the National Unity award does not carry any monetary prize.
