The Assam state government has decided to let students who will be appearing for the Assam HSLC, HS exams 2021 appear in three exams only considering the ongoing second wave of the coronavirus pandemic. Education Minister of Assam Ranoj Pegu informed," The students who are appearing for the metric or higher secondary exams this year can opt for three subjects only."
Minister Ranoj Pegu, further added that the proposal has already been submitted after a round of discussions with the Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA) and Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC). He also said that the decision will be finalized by the Assam Health and Family Welfare Department and it is expected that the Assam education board will conduct the exams within 15 days of the permission.

Originally the Class 10 students of Assam have to appear for six subjects and Class 12 students are required to appear in a minimum of 5 subjects from all the streams (Arts, Commerce, and Arts). However, this year as per the proposed notification, students can choose only three subjects and have to clear all those subjects. This will be considered as a one-time measure due to the coronavirus spread out across the state.
The minister further added that the government, as well as the Assam state education board, urge all the students to get themself prepared for the exams. A revised Assam Board date sheet will be announced soon. The board is preparing to conduct the Assam Board Exam they get a green signal from the government.
This year, a total of 4,26,508 students have registered for the Assam HSLC examination, among which 2,49,812 students are expected to appear for the Assam HS examination 2021. Among them, around 1,91,860 students are from the Arts stream, 38,431 from the Science stream, 18,440 from the Commerce stream and 1,081 students have registered themselves in the Vocational stream.
