Education & Agriculture Minister R Kamalakannan stated on Wednesday that all schools in Puducherry would be re-opened on January 4, 2021 after they were shut in March last due to the outbreak of COVID-19 Pandemic.
As per the official statement by the Minister, the schools would have half-a-day classes from 10 AM to 1 PM initially and full-day classes will be conducted from January 18, 2021. Attendance will not be taken, he added.

R Kamalakannan further informed that all the basic safety norms would be adopted by the institutions to prevent the spread of virus.
Additionally, the schools were closed in March in keeping with the guidelines issued by the Union Home Ministry.With the occurrence of COVID-19 cases coming down now, the government has finally decided to reopen the institutions on January 4, 2021.

Apart from this, the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) has written to all Chief Ministers requesting that the schools should be allowed to reopen partially for Class 10 and 12 students from January 4, 2021.
The decision was taken to ensure students complete all the projects and practical work, and clear doubts with their teachers before board exams, reads a statement from the Council’s chief executive and secretary Gerry Arathoon.
