Schools in MP to Remain Shut Till March 31; Check Details Here


Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced that schools for classes 1 to 8 will remain shut till March 31, 2021. This decision was taken by the state administration in view of the coronavirus pandemic. 

The chief minister further said that no exams will be conducted for these classes during this academic year. Instead, the students of these grades would be evaluated on the basis of the project work submitted by them.

The chief minister announced this decision during a meeting of the School Education Department on December 4. Mr. Chouhan said in a press release that offline classes for students of grades 1 to 8 will not be conducted till March 31, 2021.

The students will be given their score for promotion to the next class on the basis of their marks in the project work. He also announced that the government would resume classes for students of grade 10 and 12 shortly.

The decision to resume classes for grade 10 and 12 was important as students have to appear for board exams. As such, they have no other choice but to attend regular classes for practical work. However, he said that all the social distancing norms and safety procedures will be observed by the schools to prevent an outbreak of Covid-19.

As for students of classes 9 and 11, the chief minister said that they will be called to the schools once or twice a week. Previously the School Education Minister of MP had said that the state has partially opened schools for class 9 to 12 students from September 21. 

Strict adherence to Covid-19 was being observed and students were called to schools on a voluntary basis. He also said that in case everything goes well, the state might consider allowing more students to attend classes. 

There are around 1.5 lakh schools in the state. All of these schools have been shut since the central government enforced an unprecedented lockdown in India. Recently, the government has allowed the reopening of schools based on the judgment of the state government.
