Schools For Class 10 and 12 to be Reopened from Jan 22, Declared Mizoram Govt


Health minister R Lalthangliana has declared that Mizoram schools for class 10 and 12 students will be restarting from January 22, 2021. Read how this decision was made.

On January 15, the State Government decided to reopen the schools in Mizoram after a long wait of 9 months for class 10 and 12 from January 22. Along with this, being a Christian-majority state, the council has decided to reopen places of worship as well from the month of February.

The meeting was held in the presence of the State Health Minister and doctors, churches and civil society groups. Churches will be opened with limited attendees for services every Saturday at noon for Sabbath followers, and on Sundays for other denominations.

As the COVID-19 situation improved, the meeting discussed the parameters of existing Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and concluded that only 200 attendees or 50 percent of sitting capacity, whichever is less, will be allowed in the Churches.

Church services will not be held on other days as the services are held thrice on Sabbaths (Saturday) and Sundays. Other than that the schools will be opened only for the students of class 10 and 12 to prepare for the board exams in April.

Students will be allowed to stay in the hostels for preparation after the clear the Rapid Antigen Test before attending the school. School Education Director James Lalrinchhana said that classes will be suspended for other sections until further notice.

The quarantine protocols and swab sample testing will be followed strictly for those who are returning to the state from outside. While more people will be allowed to attend Funerals and weddings. 

Other relaxations were also given like night curfew timings, and partly easing the restrictions on hotels, gymnasiums, shops and business establishments, traffic, and sporting facilities.

Currently, the state is standing at 96 active Covid cases and did not report any case on Friday.
