Samsung Set up its Seventh AR-VR Innovation Lab at IIT Jodhpur: Read Details Here


The Samsung AR-VR innovation lab at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur will guide students on the latest technologies, including Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality, encouraging them to learn industry-relevant skills and making them ready for the professional world.

Samsung engineers, in collaboration with the faculty of IIT-Jodhpur, would run courses at the lab. Additionally, the courses will be offered to B.Tech, M.Tech, and Ph.D. students.

Around 30-35 students would be trained every year, and research fellows would use part of this lab to conduct their experiments.

Peter Rhee, Corporate Vice President, Samsung India, said, “We are confident that Samsung Innovation Lab will help students leverage the growing digital technologies market and develop their talent.

The lab curriculum will include Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, and Mixed Reality, with a principal focus on touch, haptics, taste, smell, brain-machine interfaces, robotic interfaces, and telepresence.

The duration of the course is over 14 weeks, including classroom lectures, assignments and lab room sessions, self-study, and mini-project works.

Apart from this, extensive tutorials and approach documents will also be given to students to open doors for practical exercises.

Professor Santanu Chaudhury, Director, IIT Jodhpur, stated, “This lab will provide an opportunity to the students to get exposed to different aspects of AR and VR technologies.”

He further informed, “As AR and VR are finding applications in diverse fields like education, industrial design, robotics, infrastructure management and medicine, students of different programs can take advantage of this facility.” 

Under the Samsung Digital Academy program, the company has established six Samsung Innovation Labs in IIT-Delhi, IIT-Roorkee, IIT-Kanpur, IIT-Hyderabad, IIT-Kharagpur, and IIT-Guwahati since 2017.
