Punjab: Pre-Board Exams 2021 to Start from Feb 8 for Classes 1 to 12; Offline Exams for Classes 9 to 12


The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has declared the Punjab Pre-Board Exams 2021 dates for the classes 1 to 12 while Class 9-12 have to attend in offline mode. Exams are to begin from February 8, 2021.

Punjab Board will be conducting the pre-board examinations for all the classes and not just for class 5,8,10, and 12. (Board classes) in the academic year 2021. The Education Department has decided to organize these exams so as to prepare them for the final exams. 

In view of the pandemic situation, only online classes were operated which is not enough for the students to undergo proper revision. Spokesperson of the Education Department stated that the Punjab pre-board exams 2021 will be conducted for all the classes prior to the final exams.

Earlier for Punjab Board Exam registration, students appearing for class 12th were required to pay an amount of INR. 1200 and INR 150 per practical subject.. Whereas students appearing for class 10th paid INR 800 and INR 150 per subject and per practical subjects respectively.

As the pre-board exams for class 1 to 8 will be conducted in both online and offline mode, students have the option to choose their mode of preference. The students have to report to their schools if they wish to appear for the offline exam. For the classes of 9 to 12 exams, there is no option for online exams; they have to appear for offline mode only.

Punjab Pre-Board Exam 2021: Exam Pattern 

The question paper of all the classes will be set according to the revised Punjab Board Exam Pattern instructed by the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB). For classes 1 to 5, the examination will be conducted from the entire syllabus. 

There will be MCQs and long answer questions for 1 to 8 classes. The links of question papers for the online exam will be sent by the head office to district education officers (DEOs) across the state a day prior to the scheduled exam. Whereas, for classes 9-12 the questions will be prepared from the Punjab Board’s 30% reduced syllabus

From DEOs, the questions will be further forwarded to heads/principals of the schools on the day of the exam only. The council will be grading on Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) marks. The pre-board exams results will be considered as the final results if final exams are not held in March due to Covid-19 situation.

Meanwhile, PSEB has announced the Board Exam 2021 date schedule on January 14. The exams are expected to begin from March 16 and will end on March 27, 2021.
