Pondicherry:  As per sources, aspirants in Pondicherry have approached the UT Chief Minister, V Narayanasamy and have sought his help after the Pondicherry University withdrew the reservation in a PG course.

Pondicherry University had withdrawn 25% of the reserved seats and converted them into unreserved category , for the M.Sc Ecology and Environment courses.

Earlier, 25% of the reserved seats were specifically granted for the students belonging to Puducherry.

It is the first time that the varsity has made such a decision of withdrawing the reservation seats even after including it in the college prospectus which was released during May 2020.

When the local students found out that the quota in the merit list was missing, they were in complete shock.

The merit list which was released a week ago didn't include the names of the shortlisted students for the Ecology and Environment course under the reserved category.

A local student complained that the University's website didn't mention anything about the 25% of the reserved seats for the students under these Ecology and Environment courses.

As of now, the university offers a total of 80 seats in both Ecology and Environment courses. Out of which at least 20 reserved seats must have been for the local students of Puducherry according to the previous criteria of 25% reservation.

A member of the Educational Rights of Indigenous Pupil Movement(ERIPM) said that due to the pandemic COVID-19, the members of ERIPM weren't able to meet with the Vice-chancellor to discuss the matter.

However, the varsity registrar said that she wasn't aware of the changes in the development and also assured the local students that she'll personally look into the matter.

Later, the local students approached Chief Minister V Narayanasamy to seek his help in this matter and presented a memorandum. Pondicherry University has already commenced its online admissions for the academic year 2020 from October 15.
