Online Learning Module Designed for ITI Students; Nearly 1.2 Lakh Students to Get Benefit


December 26, 2020: Directorate General of Training (DGT) has collaborated with Microsoft and NASSCOM Foundation to supply online content to ITI Students.

On December 24, the government announced that nearly 1.2 Lakh students from 3000 ITI institutes will be benefited from the online e-Learning module created by Bharat Skills portal. 

The content prepared will be useful for the ITI students and make the employability skilling programme future-ready. DGT is working directly under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship to train the nation’s youth via digitised e-Learning module.

Around 15,000 industrial training institutes (ITIs) and 33 National Skill Training Institutes will be supplied with the module. DGT also plays a vital role in the execution of vocational training schemes to fulfill the vision of 'Skill India'.

Mahendra Nath Pandey, Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship said that the DGT-Microsoft partnership will bring a great impact on thousands of students and is hoping to reach out more students and teachers by enabling digitization in education.

Covid-19 has compelled the online learning within the educational sector, but young learners are yet to use technical and market oriented skills for improving the efficiency. DGT has inaugurated online platform Bharat Skills in October 2019 for providing easy access to the trainees and trainers of the ITI ecosystem.

The platform contained the updated curriculums and course content of all courses under the Craftsmen Training Scheme, question banks, mock/practice papers, learning videos and many more.

Anant Maheshwari, President, Microsoft India, said that Bharat Skills learning platform has recorded more than 16.55 lakh used amidst COVID-19 pandemic scenario in March 2020 while only 90,000 users were using Bharath Skills since the launch in 2019.

Moreover, he added that future learners require industry relevant digital skills to build resilience in the current market. Since the pandemic situation is prevailing, it has generated the need to accelerate economic growth by the support of technology.
