December 07, 2020: Odisha Government has officially notified that examinations for postgraduate and undergraduate students across the state will not be conducted in view of the COVID-19 pandemic situations.
According to the Odisha Education Ministry’s official letter to Chancellors and Heads of various universities, semester-end exams will not be conducted since the academic session has been affected badly due to prevailing COVID-19 pandemic related dislocation.
State government will consider conducting the undergraduate and postgraduate students’ examinations only after resumption of the physical mode of teaching and completion of syllabus.

The Odisha Education Ministry has sent the letter to the Vice-Chancellors of all state public universities and non-government and government colleges’ principals coming under the higher education department.
However, educational institutions across Odisha have adopted the online teaching mode of education. But due to various reasons most of the students are unable to prevail the benefits of online teaching.
Hence, the State government discarded the idea of conducting Odisha UG and PG examinations this year.
The ministry’s official letter stated, “Online teaching is continuing but most of the students are unable to get the benefits of such online teaching due to various reasons. Therefore, at present, it is not desirable to hold examinations based only on online teaching.”

On December 07, 2020, Odisha reported 368 COVID-19 new cases. Now the number of Covid cases has reached up to 3,21,564 across the state.
Recently, the Odisha State Government had also hinted at the graded reopening of educational institutions across the state.
School and Mass Education Ministry is developing the necessary guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the resumption of physical classes and reopening of colleges.
Odisha government may adopt odd-even formula or conduct classes in several shifts to prevent gatherings and take care of social distancing. However, the burden of teachers may be increased due to extra shifts.
