The Odisha government will conduct regular health check-ups in educational institutions after the opening of schools and colleges across the state for COVID-19, an official stated on Tuesday.
The official informed that the Health and Family Welfare department would initiate health check-ups in educational institutions after resuming schools on January 8, 2021, and colleges/universities on January 11, 2021.

Chief Secretary P K Mohapatra has confirmed to the state government on behalf of the H&FW department about health check-ups at a high-level council meeting headed by Chief Secretary S C Mohapatra.
Earlier, the chief secretary directed the department to hold frequent health check-ups in educational institutions and hostels as a preventive measure against the spread of the virus.

He stated the head of the educational institutions would be in constant touch with local health workers and doctors of their area and inform any suspect case immediately.
“ACS P K Mohapatra has assured the government the health personnel would visit the educational institutions regularly for a health checkup,” the official added.
As the government has already released the date for reopening of schools for class 10 and 12 students, School and Mass Education Minister S R Dash revealed that no further reduction of the syllabus will be done. Earlier, the government had declared to reduce the syllabus by 30 percent.
The minister said that the Sanitization and the safety of all students are a priority of the government. Around 25 students will be present in each section for the classes. Accordingly, the class sections will be increased if there are more students, he added.

He further mentioned that a meeting was conducted on Monday by the principal secretary of the School and Mass Education department with all District Education Officers (DEOs). A Nodal Officer has already been set up in each district to work with their respective Collectors and DEOs.
“Classes will be held for 100 days before the examinations. Therefore, there will be no holiday on Saturdays and Sundays. Only Observation Days will be holidays. The DEOs have also been asked to appoint teachers if required,” the minister informed.

The government had announced earlier that classes for 10 would be held from January 8, 2021, to April 26, 2021, whereas Classes for 12 will be conducted from January 8, 2021, till April 28, 2021.
Similarly, the class 10 examination will take place from May 3, 2021, while the Class 12 examination will start from May 15, 2021.
On the other hand, the government has also released a detailed guideline for resuming the hostel facilities.
