Odisha Medical College: On December 09, the Government of Odisha declared that it will set up a new medical college in Kandhamal district and a 650-bedded teaching hospital for the institute that is already in Koraput district.
A cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik was held a few days back in which the aforementioned proposal was accepted.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister B K Arukha, after the Cabinet meeting, stated through a video message that the State Government has decided to set up a 100-seated new state-run Odisha medical college and teaching hospital at Phulbani in Kandhamal district, and a 650-bedded teaching hospital for the medical college situated in Koraput on a turn-key basis.
The latest tweet made by the official Twitter handle of the Chief Minister’s Office mentioned that the Odisha Cabinet Meeting led by CM Naveen Patnaik has approved the construction of two new Odisha medical college & teaching hospitals in #Koraput & #Kandhamal districts with an estimated budget of INR 680 Crores.

The tweet further read that the motive behind this project is to boost medical education and serve well to the healthcare needs of the people in the region.
Originally, the state used to own only three medical colleges run by the state government. Later the BJD Government had set up six new medical institutions in the past two decades, stated Minister Arukha. The cabinet also passed two rural piped water-supply projects worth INR 724 crore for the Bargarh district.
