The National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning(NPTEL), a joint digital learning initiative of IISc and IITs has recently launched new courses on business and sustainable development, design for IoT & electric vehicles and renewable energy, for July 2021 semester through the Swayam platform. Enrollment in NPTEL courses has already started and the deadline of enrollment for the first set of courses is August 2,2021.

More than 500 courses are offered by NPTEL that are completely free of cost for learners across the country. These courses are conducted in Online mode by NPTEL.Prof Vignesh Muthuvijayan,NPTEL Coordinator at IIT Madras said that, “SWAYAM-NPTEL is working with more than 4,000 educational institutions currently which covers all fields such as engineering,science, commerce, arts and management across the country.”
Along with students, faculty of such institutes also take NPTEL courses to upgrade their skills and knowledge. "Some of the most popular courses on NPTEL include courses on C, C++,programming in Python,data science for engineers, soft skills,introduction to machine learning & project planning and control,among others.” The courses at NPTEL are taught by the top class faculty from IITs and IISc. The interested learners can enrol for the NPTEL courses through the given website.
The certification courses of NPTEL are taught through the MOOCs format, in which learners will have to watch online videos, submit weekly/monthly basis assignments and they can also register for an optional proctored final exam. A very nominal fee is charged for the in-person proctored exam for the certification.
NPTEL was initiated by seven IITs (Madras, Delhi, Guwahati,Kanpur, Roorkee,Kharagpur and Bombay) along with the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in 2003. The platform has received more than 1.4 crore enrollments till date and its videos have received more than one billion views so far. The official NPTEL channels have nearly 3.1 million subscribers on YouTube.
