No UG Admissions before Class 12 and II PU Results, says Bengaluru Central University

With many reputed colleges in Bangalore starting admissions for undergraduate courses even before class 12 examinations are completed, Bengaluru Central University has asked its affiliate colleges not to do so.

On 22 June, Bengaluru Central University released a circular restraining colleges from conducting admissions until further instructions from the government. Should any college fail to adhere, their affiliation will be withdrawn.

Many colleges had begun admissions in May. Usually, admissions need to be done on the basis of class 12 or II pre-university results. However, the pre-university examinations in Karnataka were completed only on 18 June and the results are expected in the first week of July.

An email written by the syndicate body says that autonomous institutions need to be consistent with the rules set by their parent university. Further, it said that conducting admissions before results were declared was improper and unfair to students.

The circular mentioned the presence of a government order against starting admissions, which led to controversy. According to one of the syndicate members, no such order exists. But all the same, carrying out admission to undergraduate courses without the results of the qualifying examination is illegal and punishable, according to the syndicate member.
