NMC Extends MBBS Internship Deadline Again; Check Details Here

National Medical Commission (NMC) has once again extended the deadline to complete the internship for MBBS students to May 31, 2021. Previously, the internship was announced to be completed by March 31, 2021.

This decision by NMC was taken after MBBS students in Karnataka had held a protest last week and one of their demands was to increase the deadline for the internships.

Moved by their demands, the NMC has now issued guidelines in regards to the completion of the internship after the lifting of Covid-19 induced lockdown.

The internship period has been extended to compensate for the lost period of hands-on training or clinical clerkship during the lockdown. NMC has further instructed medical colleges in the country to take steps to reopen the colleges.

Clinical clerkship is an important part of the medical internship as it provides the students with practical skills and hands-on learning. The notice which was issued on December 9, 2020, had also said that it was the responsibility of the medical colleges to ensure timely completion of internships.

It also instructed the medical colleges to see that their students complete their internships in a satisfactory manner. Following the completion of the internship, students will be granted internship completion certificates to certify their skills.
