NIT Sikkim B.Tech Students are Now Eligible for Direct Admission to IIT Delhi PhD Program: Details Here


October 11, 2021: National Institute of Technology (NIT) Sikkim and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi have collaborated to offer NIT Sikkim’s B.Tech Students direct admission to IIT Delhi Ph.D. Program. 

National Institute of Technology (NIT) Sikkim has signed an MOU with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi to strengthen the academic bond and research in areas of mutual interest. 

Students of the National Institute of Technology Sikkim who wish to apply for IIT Delhi Ph.D. program will be offered direct admission without qualifying the GATE 2021 examination or any other national level entrance exam for the same. 

NIT Sikkim candidates who have secured a CGPA of 8.00 at their last semester examination are eligible to apply for IIT Delhi's summer project. Students will have the option to complete their 04th year of the program at IIT Delhi under this collaboration. 

Referring to the initiative by IIT Delhi, Prof. M. C. Govil, Director, NIT Sikkim said: “I am confident that our association with IIT Delhi will immensely benefit our students and faculty with regard to research and innovation”.

The collaboration will play a big part in offering NIT Sikkim students admission seats in IIT Delhi. “I hope that it will usher in a new era of technological and academic brilliance in the northeast, which will help the region develop at a brisk pace”, he added.

NIT Sikkim, IIT Delhi Collaboration to Introduce Mentorship Programme

Under this collaboration, a mentorship program will also be introduced, in which the IIT Delhi Faculty Member will mentor each department of NIT Sikkim. The exchange of faculty at the department level will be done via both online and offline modes. 

In addition to the mentorship program, the faculty members of NIT Sikkim and IIT Delhi will also exchange B.Tech., M. Tech., M.Sc. students, and research scholars to improve the academic bond between the two parties. 

While talking about the MoU with NIT Sikkim, Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao, Director, IIT Delhi said: “NIT Sikkim is a prominent technology institute in the North-Eastern region of the country”.

“At IIT Delhi, NIT Sikkim students will get exposure to world-class research infrastructure, which, I am confident, will help shape their careers. I am hopeful this MoU will be a win-win for both sides” he further added.
