Necessary to hold 2nd year PU exams, says Karnataka Education Minister


The Primary and Secondary Education Minister of Karnataka Suresh Kumar said on Sunday that it is necessary to hold the second year Pre-University ( class 12 ) exams, for student's future.

The Minister, who participated in the meeting organised by the Central Educational Ministry for the Education Ministers of all states, emphasized the need to hold the exams for the second year PU students as they prepare for professional courses. The minister Suredh Kumar told, that an appropriate decision will be taken about this in the coming days, considering centre's suggestions and various other aspects.

The Karnataka government had earlier postponed the second PUC ( class 12 ) exams which were scheduled to begin from 24th May,due to the surge in COVID cases. 

" The number of coronavirus cases is very high everywhere, it has been finalised for now that once the situation comes under control in the state, giving 15-20 days time, dates for the exams will be announced in advance,"he said.

He further informed that it has also been planned to provide an opportunity to the students who will be unable to attend the examinations due to COVID reasons to take it, during the current year itself. Noting that many of the views were that the exam process is to be simplified, Suresh Kumar said that 45 days will be required to complete the examination process in such a manner. Karnataka has the experience of holding SSLC exams last year amid COVID , he added.

The minister said that it will not be a major issue to hold second PU exams with this experience, but an appropriate decision will be made in the coming days in the interest of students' future, considering different aspects like students' learning, mindset of the parents, guidelines from the centre and overall preparational measures. He added that the process of question paper preparation has been completed in the state.

The number of centres will be increased for the smooth conduction of exams and all preparatory measures will be taken, whenever they happen."In case the exams can be held in July , it will be possible to announce the results in August, so that competitive exams like JEE, NEET, CET, ICAR can be held on suitable dates in August, he suggested. 

As per the released statement, at the meeting attended by Union Ministers like Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani,Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal and other Ministers from different states expressed their opinions in favour of holding the exams.
