Mumbai Schools to Reopen after January 15, 2021, Says BMC


Mumbai Schools: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) declared that schools in Mumbai will remain shut down till January 15, 2021. 

On December 29, BMC announced the aforesaid statement and also added that the consulate-run schools will be permitted to resume offline classes from January 18, and in the time being the decision to allow other schools to resume their classes shall be taken.

Previously, the School Education Department had permitted reopening schools in the state for classes 9 to 12 from November 23, 2020. Later, BMC asked schools to remain closed till December 31, which has now extended to January 15 of next year. 

On December 29, BMC Education Officer, Mahesh Palkar had issued a circular which read that though the prevailing COVID-19 situation is under control under its jurisdiction, schools of all mediums and managements shall remain closed owing to the second wave of COVID-19 in other countries and the situation in other states of the nation.

However, the consulate-run schools shall be allowed to reopen on the Monday after January 15, 2020. 

Palkar in a press reporting stated that while they can modify the academic schedules for local schools, they have no control over the consulate schools. 

He further said that the schools have reopened in their respective countries and hence they have permitted them to reopen as well. He mentioned that a decision on when to reopen the schools will be taken before January 15, 2020.
