Maharashtra Government to Decide on Reopening Schools in Pune after January 3


Maharashtra Government will announce the decision on reopening schools in Pune, in the upcoming month, i.e January 2021, after reviewing the pandemic situation across the state. 

On Saturday, December 12, 2020, the Civic Body said that the decision on reopening of the schools across the state will be declared post the review meeting on January 3, 2021.

In wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, schools in the city have been shut down from March 2020 onwards. However, after consulting with parents this month, it was decided that schools will not be reopened until the situation of the pandemic normalizes. 

Earlier, schools across the city were supposed to reopen from November 23, 2020, which was then postponed by Mayor Muralidhar Mohol after a meeting with the parents. During the consultation, the mayor said, the decision to reopen schools will be taken on December 13, 2020.

Therefore, it was also declared that the schools located in the Pimpri Chinchwad neighbourhood, Aurangabad City, and Nashik will remain closed until further notice and will not be reopened from November 23. As the schools in the rural areas of the districts were scheduled to reopen from November 23 onwards. 

After assessing the COVID-19 pandemic situation across the city, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation in November had announced to shut down the schools in Mumbai till December 31, 2020.
