Maharashtra College Reopening: Decision to be Taken by Jan 20, says State Minister; Check Details Here


Maharashtra government will take a decision regarding the reopening of colleges and resuming physical classes with 50 per cent attendance by January 20, 2021. 

Uday Samant, the Minister of Higher and Technical Education of Maharashtra stated that the decision on reopening colleges will be taken by January 20 during a meeting to be held with college principals and other stakeholders. 

The Higher and Technical Education Minister stated, “My ministry is mulling over reopening colleges with 50 per cent capacity as a first step. I will discuss the issue with the chief minister and other stakeholders so that an official announcement can be made by January 20.”

A review of the current status of the colleges in Maharashtra, availability of students, non-teaching staff and hostels were already initiated by the Ministry of Education, Samant informed.

Assurance has also been provided by the Ministry regarding the commencement of the recruitment process for several vacant posts of the teaching staff at the Maharashtra government college and government-aided colleges. 

Schools and colleges in Maharashtra were kept closed because of the nationwide lockdown imposed to control the spread of the COVID 19. Some schools and junior colleges were reopened and physical classes were resumed for students of Classes 9 to 12 in some parts of Maharashtra on January 1, 2021.

To draft a proposal for an international standard Music College in Mumbai, a 12-member committee has been appointed under the chairmanship of noted musician Hridaynath Mangeshkar, Samant stated.
