January 5, 2021: According to West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE), the examination centres for the Madhyamik Exam 2021 will be increased by three times to ensure social distancing at exam centres. Madhyamik Exam is slated to be held in the month of June.
In 2020, the number of exam centres for Madhyamik Exam were increased to around 7,000. Earlier there were around 2,839 examination centres. This year, approximately 14 lakh students are going to appear in the exam and the board has instructed not to allow more than 200 examinees in one centre.

As per the official guidelines, issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs in October 2020, the number of 200 has been fixed.
The regulation reads, “Social, academic, sports, entertainment, cultural, religious, political functions, etc. in a sealed environment with a maximum of 50 per cent of the hall capacity with a maximum of 200 persons will continue”.
In the previous year, normally 700 aspirants were seated in each exam centre. This year, students are not allowed to sit near each other because of COVID-19 pandemic. The board official said that they have to abide by the COVID-19 protocols. So they have to almost increase the number of exam centres compared with last year.

According to the School Education Department, the board is planning to demand primary schools to set up exam venues because, till the previous year, only secondary schools were used as exam centres. The board official said that they will decide the need for exam centres based on the number of examinees.
As per the board official, the members are in the process of collecting data on the number of examinees. The camp offices were conducted last year on December 16 and 17 to allocate admission forms among regular and ongoing candidates.
The candidates will be given a set of information on physical distancing. All the aspirants have been asked to come to the exam centres with masks and sanitizers. An official of the school education department said that the body temperature of the examinees will be checked with thermal scanners.
Kalyanmoy Ganguly, the president of WBBSE said they will ensure that all safety protocols are maintained and followed.
