The Education Department in Kerala has decided to reopen the schools partially from January 1, 2021 for Class 10 and 12 students. All the schools are directed to follow the Covid protocols to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
On December 31, State Health Minister KK Shailaja confirmed the news by stating that the government has made necessary arrangements for reopening the schools and students should not fear going to the schools. The SOPs issued by the health and the education departments are to be followed strictly.

Recently, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had given the consent to open all the educational institutions in the state including colleges and schools with Covid protocols. As of now, the schools will be operating with 50% students only and one bench will be arranged for each student for the first week, says the General Education Department.
Director of Public Instructions (DPI) had issued the guidelines to conduct the classes for 10th and 12th students with 25% instead, to maintain the capacity of 300 people at a time. Also, there should be a sufficient supply of masks, sanitizer, digital thermometer and soaps in their institutions.
Social Distancing will be maintained by a distance of two meters between each other and rotational shifts will be held in limited hours if required.
All the items in the classroom are to be sanitized after every two hours and students will be attending schools only after their parents have submitted their consent to the authorities. The Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) and Higher Secondary (HSC) second year board exams are scheduled to be conducted from March 17 - 30, 2021.
Medical Colleges and Universities of Agriculture and Fisheries are also planning to conduct regular classes at the campus with a limited number of students for UG and PG programs from January 2021.
The state has recorded over 65,000 active COVID-19 cases in large numbers in recent months. Many states have decided to reopen the schools for the sake of board exams for class 10 and 12 students.
