Kerala Government Directs in-State Colleges to reopen from Jan 01 with Strict COVID-19 Guidelines; Read Full Report Here


December 17, 2020: Kerala Education Minister has directed all agricultural and fisheries in-state colleges to resume on-campus classes from the New Year i.e. January 01, 2021. However, the colleges will be reopened with only 50% attendance.

The State Government has further directed in-state colleges that strict COVID protocols and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) must be followed while conducting offline classes.

Moreover, Kerala State Higher Education Council has asked the State Government to introduce a trimester pattern despite the usual two semesters. Through this reorientation of the academic year, Kerala colleges will consider the slow learning process through online mode.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will soon announce the decision of reopening of inter-state schools along with the conduction of examinations including Kerala Board Exam 2021.

Earlier, the General Education Department had recommended the reopening of schools for Class 10th & 12th by the first week of January 2021.

Hence, the slow learning process’ decision in covering topics through online learning and reopening of offline classes for 10th and 12th students will be taken very soon.

Schools and Colleges across the state have not been functioning for 8 months with the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic crisis and subsequent lockdown.

Additionally, Kerala Education Department has not decided upon the reduction of schools and colleges’ syllabus. However, the decision of whether the school and college’s syllabus will be reduced or not will be made on the basis of the college and schools’ reopening date.

Since November, the Kerala Government has been actively pursuing the resumption of postgraduate (PG) batch classes, especially the State Universities teaching department which has less than 30 students. 

Kerala State Government has also mentioned that strict actions may be taken if the SOPs and COVID-19 guidelines are not followed by in-state colleges. Recently, Tamil Nadu Govt decided to take action against educational institutions defying COVID-19 norms.
