Kerala College Reopening: State Govt Allows to Reopen Colleges for Final Year Students from Jan 4


Kerala Government has permitted colleges to reopen in phases for final year students in the state from January 4, 2021. Physical classes will be commencing for the final year UG, PG and Research students in a phase-wise manner.

In the first phase of reopening of colleges, 5th and 6th semester UG students of all streams will be allowed to visit the college campus. Since higher educational institutes were to reopen from January 4, 2021, teaching and non-teaching staff were permitted to visit their respective institutes from December 28, 2020.

Kerala College Reopening: Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)

The government of Kerala has issued guidelines and standard operating procedures to ensure the safe reopening of colleges and universities. 

According to the SOPs issued for the reopening of colleges, classes were to be held from 8:30 AM to 5 PM. To follow the social distancing norms in the college campus, only 50% of the total strength were allowed to visit the college campus on a given day. 

Few states have permitted reopen the colleges only for science stream students who need to use the laboratories for practical work. But the Kerala government has decided to reopen the colleges for all the streams including Arts, Science, Commerce, Law, Music, Fine Arts, Polytechnic and other technical institutions. 

The government of Kerala has previously permitted agricultural and fisheries colleges which were not extended to all the higher educational institutions of the state. The Kerala Government has permitted to reopen the colleges for final year students only and the dates to reopen colleges for the remaining classes will be announced sooner.
