Karnataka Schools to Reopen from Jan 1; State Education Minister Checks Preparedness of Schools


December 31, 2020: Karnataka Governor has decided to reopen the Karnataka schools from January 1, 2021. Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar announced on Wednesday i.e. December 30, that all the schools will be reviewed according to the Covid-19 guidelines issued by the Government.

The Education Minister has advised all the headmasters, principals, lecturers, teachers and staff to adhere to the safety precautions in order to prevent the risk of spreading Coronavirus.

The physical classes in Karnataka schools will be conducted as per the SOPs and guidelines issued by the state and central government. The classes are reopening for the sake of SSLC exam and board's exam.

Karnataka government also plans to open the regular classes for PU-I year and to start the Widyagama programme in a revised format for students of classes six to nine from January 15, 2021 as well.

After a long wait of 9 months due to lockdown and increasing covid-19 cases, the government has given the green light to reopen the Karnataka schools. The education minister has asked officials to make sure that the children are aware about the importance of SSLC and Board exam marks.

These programs will be conducted in small batches with the students choice of study place abiding by the COVID-19 guidelines. These classes will be held in private schools to ensure door-door education is imparted at the pandemic situation.

Former Education minister, A H Vishwanath opposed this initiative saying it is not healthy to risk the health of children for the sake of education. In return S Suresh Kumar assured that the issue can affect the future of children if Karnataka schools are not reopened.

As of Tuesday, the total coronavirus cases in Karnataka has risen to 9,17,571 with a total of 11,861 active cases.
