Schools and Pre-University colleges in Karnataka have been reopened after being closed for 9 months because of the lockdown imposed due to the ongoing COVID 19 pandemic on January 1, 2021.
Normal classes have begun and students of Classes 10 and 12 have returned to their classes on January 1, 2021. S. Suresh Kumar, the Primary and Secondary Education Minister of Karnataka stated that the average attendance of class 10 and 12 on the first day is 41 per cent and 32.56 per cent respectively.
For the Vidyagama program, students from classes 6 to 9 visited their school campuses which enabled them to resume normal physical classes.
Kumar conducted a day-long inspection in various schools and informed the reporters that around 3.8 lakh students have returned to class 10 in 16,850 schools, 78,794 students have returned to class 12, and 5,492 students have returned to colleges. He also stated that he was too happy to see the students returning to their schools and colleges.
The education minister, Suresh Kumar said, “Amid the Covid pandemic situation and several curbs about 40 per cent of attendance for class 10 and 32.56 per cent attendance for PUC (class 12) isn't bad. It is a good beginning we have made I believe.”
The attendance in classes 10 and 12 will be paced up from January 4, 2021, Kumar stated. He also added that several vigilance squads will be appointed by the state’s education department to check if the institutes are following the COVID 19 guidelines or not.
Until parents need, the online classes will also be continued and neither the parents nor the students will be forced to visit the campus at this point of time, Education Minister stated.
