Karnataka School Reopening: Resume 10th, 12th Classes from Jan 01 and 9th, 11th, from Jan 15, Suggests Advisory Committee


December 17, 2020: Karnataka Technical Advisory Committee for Covid-19 has recommended resuming offline classes for class 10 and 12 from January 01, 2021, and classes for 11 and 9 from January 15, 2021 in the state.

The Advisory Committee conducted a meeting to discuss concerns on the reopening of inter-state schools. School reopening dates have been discussed with the Chief Minister and will be finalized in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Moreover, Vidyagama has introduced a new form of reopening of campus for class 6th to 9th. Although offline classes for 6th to 9th will also be held from January 01, 2021, but will be conducted in small groups.

Earlier, Karnataka Private Schools had requested the Government to issue new SOPs to conduct Vidyagama Classes. The Government will relaunch a continuous learning program of Vidyagama from January 01, 2021.

Karnataka Technical Advisory Committee has also recommended the State Government to take some time before the resumption of Vidyagama for primary classes. The state will wait for the High Court’s order on resuming primary classes across the state.

Moreover, students must come to school with a consent letter duly signed by their parents, as recommended by the Karnataka Technical Advisory Committee.

An undertaking will be in the consent letter that students have no COVID-19 symptoms such as sore throat, cold, or cough. However, if any student is showing such symptoms are strictly directed to not attend on-campus classes.

Recently, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy has urged CM to introduce Konkani as a medium of Education. The Academy has recommended considering the National Education Policy (NEP) proposal that puts emphasis on education in the mother tongue.

As per the National Education Policy (NEP), the medium of instruction till class 5 should be in the regional language or mother tongue
