Karnataka Private Schools Request Govt to Issue New SOPs to Conduct Vidyagama Classes; Details Here


December 17, 2020: Karnataka Government has decided to permit private schools to conduct Vidyagama classes. As a result, private schools have asked the government to issue separate SOPs for exams.

Additionally, the State Government has declared that the continuous learning program of Vidyagama will be relaunched from January 1 in all schools across the state maintaining safety precautions.

Karnataka Association of Managements of Primary and Secondary Schools Secretary, D Shashi Kumar stated that currently, Vidyagama can only be implemented by a few private schools.

Many schools have various issues with the current proposals, especially with the transportation system. A shift system is also not possible as students will not be able to travel to schools at noon. 

Primary and Secondary Schools Secretary, D Shashi Kumar further added that schools with a huge number of students will not be feasible with the current Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs).

Secretary after stating the aforesaid points said that the current plan is suitable only for government schools. Association claims that it has submitted plans A, B, and C to the government, and a fresh plan of action needs to be implemented for the private schools. 

Some proposals made by the schools comprise a mixture of classes on alternate days, shifts, and online classes. Natesh Kumar MN from Gurukula International School highlighted the point that it’s impossible for government schools to follow SOPs. 

He questioned, “How will the government be able to pay for sanitization or procure thermometers for 40,000 schools?” and further added that it is impossible to start by January 01 but if the government follows SOPs, then they will follow it too.

Secretary of MICSA (Managements of Independent CBSE Schools Association), Mansoor Ali Khan said that most of the CBSE Schools in Bengaluru are likely to continue only with online classes. 

Khan added that students and teachers have become comfortable with the online system and further added that many schools do not have the manpower to manage both offline and online classes.

A number of schools say that they do not expect students to attend classes on campus even after Vidyagama is implemented. 

Basaveshwara Educational Institute Principal, Srinivasa V stated that several parents are scared to send their children out without a vaccine. Many parents hope that students will be promoted without exams this year. Principal Srinivasa V added, parents don’t wish to send their children to schools and do not wish to pay the fees as well. They think that the students can do without it.

Meanwhile, CA Ramesh of Suma Public School said that the whole day will pass in picking up and dropping children and this will raise the chances of infections as they have students from distinct areas unlike government schools, where the children are mostly from neighborhoods.
