July 17, 2021: As per the latest announcement, Karnataka Government has permitted Medical, Dental, AYUSH colleges to reopen with immediate effect.
The announcement was made by Karnataka Health Minister K Sudhakar on Friday, July 16, 2021, via his official Twitter account, which reads, "It has been decided to allow the reopening of all Medical, Dental, AYUSH, and other allied healthcare educational institutions in the state with immediate effect".
Referring to the current pandemic situation, Health Minister K Sudhakar also tweeted, "Students, faculty members, and non-teaching staff should have been vaccinated to attend the college”.
The state government has directed the reopening of all Karnataka Medical Colleges including all dental and AYUSH colleges across the state by keeping in mind the decrease in COVID-19 cases in the state in July 2021.
Karnataka Health Minister K Sudhakar added that the decision to reopen medical, AYUSH and Dental colleges in Karnataka has been taken after discussing the same with the state executive committee. He further added that the reopening will only be done if all students, teaching, non-teaching, and other staff have completed their first vaccination process. The reopening is conditional, and will not be imposed on the colleges.
Additionally, those students, teachers, or staff members of the college who are yet to take their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine will not be permitted to enter the college grounds due to safety reasons.
While making the decision, Karnataka Health Minister K Sudhakar strictly added that medical colleges across the Karnataka state will reopen in accordance with the covid-19 safety protocols and guidelines. He directed Medical, Dental, and AYUSH College authorities to ensure that covid-19 protocols and related guidelines released by the concerned authority must be followed throughout the reopening and commencement of classes in the colleges.
The covid-19 protocols which will be followed in all state colleges include wearing masks, maintaining social distance, use of hand sanitisers, and handwashing facilities to ensure the safety of students, and faculty.
