On Tuesday, June 15, 2021, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister C N Ashwath declared that Common Entrance Test (CET) performance will not be included as a criterion for Bachelor of Science (BSc) Admission 2021 in Karnataka state.

Referring to the decision, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister officially stated that the idea to make the Common Entrance Test (CET) performance of students as a parameter for B.Sc Admission 2021 has been dropped.
The decision to drop CET Scores of candidates as admission criteria were taken during a meeting with Vice-Chancellors, and Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister C N Ashwath Narayan, who also holds the Higher Education portfolio.
Earlier, with the cancellation of the Karnataka Board PUC II Examination 2021, the department of higher education pitched the idea to include CET scores of students as a basic parameter for the B.Sc Admission 2021 process in Karnataka state.
With the exam cancellation, it is to be expected that the number of students seeking admission in various Undergraduate programs in the state will increase, Narayan said.
Universities in the states have been directed to act towards the commencement of undergraduate program academic year 2021, he added.

He further added that if universities in the state begin the admission process for the 4 year UG program, then it will help to enroll more students. Thus this is the right time for varsities to initiate the admission process.
Additionally, the web portal-based software, called Unified University College Management System, which was developed by the department of e-Officer has been given a green signal to go for a trial run from June 25, 2021.

To support the web portal, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister directed all the vice-chancellors of Unified University to only do correspondence with the government through the management system.
DCM stated that Vice-Chancellors of the university have been directed to start the admission process for first-year degree courses in the first week of October for all interested and eligible candidates.
