As per latest updates, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) will resume classes from December 21, 2020, Monday, for PhD scholars during its fourth phase of Reopening the campus after shutting down for over seven months due to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic.
Pramod Kumar, JNU Registrar, stated, “PhD students from all schools (both day scholars and hostlers), who are required to access the laboratory, are allowed to enter the campus from December 21. The students will have to mandatorily self-quarantine themselves for seven days and submit a self-declaration.”

Furthermore, the institute has declared that the central library, all canteens and dhabas will remain closed in the wake of COVID-19 Pandemic.
He added, “Aarogya Setu enables early identification of a potential risk of infection and thus, acts as a shield for individuals and the community. With a view to ensuring safety in offices, workplaces and laboratories, employees and students on best effort basis should ensure that Aarogya Setu is installed by all employees and students.”

Kumar also mentioned that the students are advised by the heads of departments to install the Aarogya Setu application on mobile phones and frequently update their health status on the app. It will help the timely provision of medical care to those under risk.
According to the guidelines issued by the varsity, no social gatherings, compulsory wearing masks, holding meetings online, opening doors and windows during office hours, avoiding air-conditioning, should be followed.

Kumar also informed, “If any employee or student and their family members are tested positive or under home isolation or home quarantine, they will inform about the same with supporting documents immediately. If it is found that anyone is violating the above directions and COVID-19 protocols, such violators shall be liable for disciplinary action.”
Additionally, the JNU campus was physically closed in March because of the COVID-19 Pandemic. However, the phased reopening of the university campus started on November 2, 2020.
